Marieke joined the Knowledge Platform in March 2025. She studied history in Leiden and moved to Groningen in 2020 to start a PhD. Almost immediately, she felt right at home there. For her PhD, she wrote a cultural biography of the Groningen entrepreneurial Scholten family, focusing on the period 1840-1970. After submitting her dissertation, she was eager to engage in a social and current topic in which she could use her qualities as a researcher. The Knowledge Platform turned out to be the perfect place to get started. She is interested in how the province's past continues into the present and what role Groningen's identity plays in the gas extraction case.
