Entrepreneurship in the gas extraction area
For a long time, entrepreneurs in the gas extraction area were a “forgotten group”: they had to deal with all kinds of negative consequences, but had nowhere to go when they were in trouble. This has changed in recent years. In a short time, numerous schemes have been set up and several organizations can now support small and medium-sized businesses. We are mapping out how the needs of SMEs relate to the range of schemes and support now offered by organizations.
The research was conducted at the request of the National Coordinator of Groningen. For the study, we interviewed 16 professionals and conducted extensive literary research. The report was released simultaneously with the report by Gronings Perspectief. They interviewed 20 entrepreneurs and thus mapped the impact of gas extraction on entrepreneurs.
We conclude that there are major differences in the degrees to which entrepreneurs have been affected by the issues. But it is evident that a part of the entrepreneurs experience major disadvantages. The approach that has been developed in recent years to better support them must continue to prove itself in the coming period. Entrepreneurs are important for the area's livability. Therefore, we provide recommendations for further improvements in the approach.
On the 26th of March, at the end of the afternoon we will hold a knowledge café on entrepreneurship in the gas extraction area in which we will explain our results. Would you like to attend? Send us an email.
