Opinion: Who wants to be trusted, should trust in return

Sanne Hupkes and Tom Postmes wrote an opinion piece for the Dagblad van het Noorden. The piece appeared on July 15 2021.

 

They argue that the greatest stress for residents is not caused by earthquakes, cracks and insecurity, but by the approach taken by government, organisations and companies. In their view, regaining trust should be the main focus.

 

The frenzied pursuit of rapid material recovery can make it more difficult to restore relationships between residents and the government, and residents themselves. Material compensation alone does not simply lead to acknowledgement.
