Willemijn has been working as a researcher for the Knowledge Platform since September 2022. She was born and raised in the city of Groningen and does not plan on leaving anytime soon. Her background is in spatial development and she completed her master's degree in Social Planning at the University of Groningen in 2021. After graduating, she researched how resident initiatives and communities deal with the challenges of climate change. Her interests lie mainly in the spatial consequences of sustainability and the energy transition and how different actors can positively contribute to these processes. She pays attention to the social, cultural, political and economic environment in which decision-making on spatial interventions takes place. This comes in handy at the Knowledge Platform, where she is involved in the updated knowledge overview. This overview brings together existing knowledge about the social impact of gas extraction in Groningen and connects knowledge from different disciplines. Willemijn believes it is important that scientific knowledge and practice come together in order to achieve a better environment and society for people and the environment.
